Is it true that this was the reason why Catalina Cabral went to Baguio?
Former Public Works Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral went to Benguet to collect a debt from a contractor but was found dead after falling off a cliff.
Cabral’s death became controversial because of the stories that surfaced online. Her driver explained that she wanted to be left alone in the area where she fell. However, in a 2018 interview, the former public official revealed that
her greatest phobia was “heights.”
Cabral’s driver showed a selfie
in which she was seen sitting on a cement barricade along the road.
With this, speculations surrounding her death circulated. For some, it was intentional, while some believed that she ended her life. However, a
wild theory surfaced on social media connecting Catalina Cabral’s case to the missing bride
because they had a resemblance.
Erice said that Cabral aimed to collect payment from a contractor’s debt, and he got the information from a “very reliable source.”
This is also one of the reasons why he and 10 other congressmen filed a resolution to have two committees of the House of Representatives investigate the issue of Cabral’s death.
Merong lumapit sa akin na she was there to collect some debts from a contractor,”
Erice said.
The congressman also said that it is hard to believe that Cabral ended her life because of the inconsistencies in where she stayed while in Baguio. He learned from his source that Cabral often went to a mansion in Benguet to relax, especially after she resigned from the DPWH.
Erice also questioned why Catalina Cabral’s bank accounts were not frozen even though former Public Works Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo had identified her as the “principal figure” in the corruption in flood control projects.
He added that according to his source, the former DPWH Undersecretary was able to withdraw cash from the bank.
