Tito Sotto Vows To Act “Forthwith” on Possible Impeachment Case vs. Marcos Jr., Sara Duterte

Senate Pres. Tito Sotto To Act on Any Impeachment Case Sent to Senate with Dispatch

TITO SOTTO

– The Senate President vowed that he will act “forthwith” on any impeachment case that will be sent to the Senate.

Last August 2025, the

Senate voted to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte

. Nineteen senators voted in favor of the motion after the Supreme Court ruled the impeachment complaint as unconstitutional.

According to the Supreme Court, the impeachment complaint against Duterte violated the one-year ban rule. Another impeachment rap may only be filed against the Vice President after the ban is lifted on February 6.

However, the decision of the Senate which was then under the leadership of former Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero met countless criticisms. There was a loud call already to start the impeachment trial even before the SC has released its decision.

Many people asserted that impeachment trials should be started immediately — citing “forthwith”. Four (4) senators were against the archiving of the impeachment complaint against the Vice President while one senator abstained from making a vote.

Amid the flood control mess, the Senate had a shakeup. Sen. Chiz Escudero became part of the minority bloc in the upper chamber while former Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto was elected as the Senate president. He is also a former chief of the upper chamber prior to it.

Recently, there are claims that the

House of Representatives are allegedly eyeing two (2) impeachments in one month — against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte

. Amid the impeachment talks, based on a

report

on Inquirer, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto vowed that he will act “forthwith” on any impeachment case that will be sent to the upper chamber.

“One thing is certain, as SP (Senate President), I will act on it with dispatch, forthwith!”

Sotto said.

As of this writing, there is no official impeachment complaint filed against Marcos Jr. and Duterte.

Malacañang recently claimed that Marcos Jr. is ready to face any impeachment case that will be filed against him
