DOJ Rejects Bato dela Rosa Lawyer’s Request for Info on Alleged ICC Arrest Warrant vs. Senator

– The Department of Justice rejected the request of Senator Bato dela Rosa’s lawyer for information on the alleged arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sen. Bato dela Rosa is no show in the Senate sessions since November 11. His long absence at the chamber came after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla claimed that the ICC has allegedly released an arrest warrant against him.

Dela Rosa previously asked the Supreme Court to compel the Ombudsman to release a copy of the alleged ICC arrest warrant but the high court junked his appeal. His lawyer, Israelito Torreon, previously claimed that he is allegedly getting only orders from the Senator’s family as Dela Rosa allegedly stopped responding to his messages.

Just a few days after he made the claim,

lawyer Israelito Torreon took photos of him and Sen. Bato dela Rosa to social media

. While he did not reveal what they talked about, through the post, he advised the Senator to really be careful.

Before becoming a senator, Dela Rosa was the chief of the Philippine National Police. He was the first chief of the PNP during the tenure of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who is currently detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands.

Chief State Counsel Dennis Arvin Chan claimed that the information sought by Torreon are “critical matters”. Based on the

report

, the lawyer of Sen. Bato dela Rosa asked the DOJ if it has received any formal or informal communication from the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), or any foreign entity related to the supposed arrest warrant against the Senator.

“Consistent with judicial courtesy accorded to all courts, we regret that we cannot issue any advice or guidance on the matter,”

Chan claimed.

Previously, the Department of Interior and Local Government or
