Authorities Safely Captured Large Python in Sampaloc, Manila
A large python was safely caught at an abandoned house in Prudencio Street in Sampaloc, Manila on Sunday evening (January 18, 2026).
The snake had reportedly been seen in the area for some time, causing fear among nearby residents, especially those who noticed it peeking out from the ceiling of the old structure. Responding to the call were personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection, who faced a difficult task upon arrival.
Medyo pumapalag siya, sensitive siya sa environment niya. Medyo aggressive rin siya. Possible nag-hunting siya. Siguro nagugutom,
” Sampaloc Fire Station SFO2 Michael Yalung said.
The rescue took patience and teamwork. Five firefighters carefully worked together to pull the snake out and secure it safely. Once captured, residents gathered to see the animal up close. The python was estimated to be around eight to ten feet long, making it an alarming sight for the community.
Instead of harming the animal, the responders stressed the importance of proper handling and rescue. The python was temporarily nicknamed Prudencio, taken from the name of the street where it was found.
“Huwag kasi nating patayin ‘yung sawa kasi malaking tulong din ‘yan sa environment natin at bawal po ‘yung pagpatay ng sawa,”
Yalung added.
It will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for proper care and assessment.
