Barker Wounded After Being Shot by Fellow Barker After Intense Disagreement
A barker gets injured after being shot by a fellow barker over intense dispute in Barangay 40, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
Around 3:30 a.m. on January 22, 2026, the dispute between two passenger barkers turned violent, leaving one man injured after being shot by a fellow barker along Mabini-Lizares Street, an area where barkers usually compete for passengers.
The victim was identified as Rolando, 39 years old, a resident of Barangay 39. The suspect, known as Roger, lives in Barangay Taculing and is also working as a barker in the same area. Both men earn their living by calling passengers for public transport, a job that often leads to tension due to limited space and competition.
According to police, the trouble started when the two argued over a spot used for picking up passengers. The disagreement became heated after the victim reportedly took the spot ahead of the suspect.
It caused anger between the two men, leading to a confrontation. When the victim asked the suspect to move away from the area, the situation quickly escalated.
As the victim was already walking away, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot him. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his arm, side, and leg. Nearby residents and bystanders were shocked by the sudden violence at such an early hour.
The injured man was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. Doctors attended to his wounds, and he is now recovering. Authorities said he was fortunate to survive the attack.
After the shooting, the suspect quickly fled the scene using an electric bike. Police launched a manhunt and are continuing their search to locate and arrest him. They are also working to recover the weapon used in the crime.
Police reminded the public that conflicts should be settled peacefully and encouraged anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to coordinate with authorities.
