The security guard who went viral in 2023 was found guilty of committing this crime.
VIRAL SECURITY GUARD – Justice is finally served after two years, as the court served a guilty order against this person for the crime committed.
In July 2023, a
mall security guard went viral
after throwing a puppy from the footbridge, which led to the untimely death of the helpless animal. Many people condemned the act, and an animal group has pursued a case for justice. Two years later, justice has been served.
“In July 2023, a security guard in a mall in Quezon City threw a puppy named Browny from a footbridge, leading to the animal’s death. AKF pursued a criminal case and today we the verdict was out – GUILTY BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT!”
said Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) in a statement.
The AKF pursued the case against Jojo Malicdem, and he was found guilty by the Quezon City Court of violating Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
The penalties included (1) year and six (6) months and one (1) day as minimum, to two (2) years of imprisonment, as maximum. He will also be fined PHP 100,000.00. It added,
“In case accused is unable to pay the fine due to his insolvency, subsidiary imprisonment shall be applied as against him in lieu of the payment of the fine.”
The accused was also held civilly liable and ordered to pay the puppy’s owner PHP 20,000.00 in moral damages, with 6% annual interest from the finality of the decision until fully paid.
“May this ruling honor the life that was lost and serve as a warning that ANIMALS ARE NOT DISPOSABLE, and CRUELTY HAS CONSEQUENCES,”
