Based on the initial police investigation, the passenger bus was traveling along the same highway when two vehicles ahead of it suddenly collided. In an attempt to avoid crashing into the vehicles involved, the bus driver swerved. However, the maneuver caused the bus to enter the opposite lane, directly into the path of Sando’s oncoming motorcycle.

The impact proved fatal. Sando was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, as confirmed in a report aired on GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.

Police Lt. Col. Verniño Noserale explained that the bus driver tried to steer clear of the collision in front of him, but the sudden movement led to unintended and devastating consequences. Aside from Sando, another motorist who was traveling behind the officer sustained minor injuries. The injured rider received medical treatment and is now recovering.

The 43-year-old bus driver has reportedly expressed deep remorse over the incident and extended his apologies to the family of the fallen officer. Authorities said he may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

Meanwhile, the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the initial collision have reportedly settled their matter amicably. Police are also pursuing another vehicle said to have left the scene shortly after the crash.

The untimely death of Police Executive Master Sergeant Sando has left the Highway Patrol Group in Central Visayas mourning the loss of one of its own, as investigations into the tragic highway accident continue.
