PAGASA Reports Tropical Depression Basyang Makes Landfall in Bohol, Heavy Rains Continue
PAGASA UPDATE – The weather agency reported that Basyang has weakened into a tropical depression as it makes landfall in Bohol.
Around 11 a.m. on Friday, Tropical Depression Basyang has made its second landfall in Jagna, Bohol, according to PAGASA’s 2 p.m. weather update. The storm earlier hit Bayabas, Surigao del Sur late Thursday night, marking its first landfall before crossing central portions of the Visayas.
As of early Friday afternoon, Basyang was located near the area of Bilar, Bohol. It continues to move west-northwest at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour. The typhoon is carrying sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching as high as 75 kilometers per hour.
While the storm has slightly weakened, it is still capable of bringing dangerous weather conditions.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains raised in many areas, including parts of the Visayas, northern Mindanao, Palawan, and nearby islands. Residents in these places may still experience strong winds, moderate to heavy rains, and rough sea conditions.
PAGASA warned that Basyang could make another landfall later in the afternoon over the southern portions of Cebu or Negros. By Saturday, the storm is expected to weaken further and turn into a low-pressure area while moving over the Panay Gulf.
Despite this, its remaining weather system will continue to bring rainfall. Heavy to intense rains are expected across Central and Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and Palawan. Northern areas of Mindanao may also see continued rainfall, while the shear line could bring rain to eastern and southern Luzon over the weekend.
Authorities warned of possible widespread flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.
