– The Vice President reiterated the power of impeachment amid the complaints filed against her.
Two impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Duterte
before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The first verified complaint against the Vice President was filed by the members of the
Makabayan
coalition.
The first impeachment rap against Duterte was endorsed by party-list Reps. Antonio Tinio of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), Sarah Jane Elago of Gabriela Women’s Party and Renee Louise Co of Kabataan. The complainants accused the Vice President of alleged betrayal of public trust and gross abuse of discretionary powers regarding the supposed misuse of the P625 million confidential funds of her office, the Office of the Vice President (OVP), and the Department of Education (DepEd).
The second impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was filed by
Tindig Pilipinas
. It was endorsed by
Mamamayang Liberal
party-list Representative Leila de Lima and
Akbayan
party-list chairman Percy Cendaña.
Civic society leaders including the grandson of the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino and the late former Pres. Cory Aquino, Kiko Aquino-Dee, are behind the second impeachment rap against the Vice President. They accuse her of alleged culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.

Vice Pres. Duterte also claimed that the head of the
Akbayan
“‘While VP Sara is in power, the threat of a full-blown Duterte comeback is still a very real and present danger. For one, they are supported by one major superpower, China,’”
Duterte said referring to Hontiveros’ statement.
Ahead of the filing of impeachment complaints not only against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte but as well as Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Senate Pres. Tito Sotto claimed that he will act “forthwith” on any impeachment rap that will reach the Senate. After the junking of the impeachment raps against Marcos Jr., Sotto also revealed that he’s already having preparations over the possibility of presiding an impeachment court for the trial of the Vice President.
Recently, Senate Pres.
Tito Sotto also claimed that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte “needs to be done as soon as possible”
if a complaint reaches the chamber.
