Senate Pres. Tito Sotto Wants Sen. Bato dela Rosa to Voluntarily Forego Salary
BATO DELA ROSA
– The ‘hiding’ Senator remains mum on the suggestion of Senate Pres. Tito Sotto to forego his salary during his absence.
Sen. dela Rosa is absent from the Senate since November 11, 2025. His prolonged absence from the sessions took place after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla claimed that the International Criminal Court has allegedly released an arrest warrant against him.

Then, Remulla claimed that the other government agencies allegedly have no copies yet of the ICC arrest warrant against Dela Rosa. Thus, their non-confirmation of the presence of the alleged ICC arrest warrant supposedly does not invalidate his claim.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa was the first chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the term of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The former Chief Executive is currently detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands since March 2025.
Amid the questions about the veracity that the foreign court has ordered the arrest of the Senator, Duterte’s former spokesman,
Harry Roque, who is also in The Hague now claimed that the ICC arrest warrant against Sen. Bato dela Rosa has allegedly long been released
but the Philippine agencies have only received their copies recently.
Roque advised Dela Rosa to immediately seek sanctuary in the Supreme Court amid an alleged ICC arrest warrant
against him. Instead, the Senator seemingly went into hiding and has not appeared at any Senate session since November 11.
Previously, the confirmation of Senate Pres. Tito Sotto that Sen. Bato dela Rosa remains to receive his salary despite his long absence in the chamber earned massive criticisms. Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian also claimed that the “no work, no pay” rule does not apply to senators.

Amid the public’s reactions and the claims of some senators including him that Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s office remains functional, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto previously called on Sen. Bato dela Rosa to forego his salary while he’s absent.
,” Sotto said.
