Authorities Rescue 14-Year-Old Girl From Illegal Child Marriage
A 14-year-old girl was rescued by the Philippine National Police after being saved from an alleged illegal child marriage in T’boli, South Cotabato.
The planned marriage involved the minor and a 19-year-old male and was stopped before it could take place, thanks to the quick action of authorities and school officials.
The rescue happened in Sitio Datal Bila, Barangay Tudok. The case first came to light when school officials reported the planned engagement between the two students on February 6, 2026.
Concerned for the safety and future of the young girl, they immediately informed the authorities, which led to a prompt response.
Authorities took time to explain to the family the law that strictly bans child marriage. They discussed Republic Act 11596 and local ordinances, making it clear that marrying minors is illegal and harmful.
The goal was not only to stop the act but also to help families understand the risks and long-term effects of child marriage on young people.
After the rescue, the 14-year-old girl was placed under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office. She is now receiving psychosocial support and proper intervention to help her recover emotionally and mentally from the experience.
Officials made sure that her safety and well-being remain the top priority. The police stressed that child marriage has no place in society and that laws protecting children will be firmly enforced.
They also encouraged the public to report similar cases right away. Early reporting, they said, can help prevent abuse and protect the rights, safety, and future of children in every community.
