PH Coast Guard’s Jay Tarriela Denies Using WPS Issue for Popularity, Political Run

– The Philippine Coast Guard Spokesperson called his job “heartbreaking” citing the alleged actions of senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Rodante Marcoleta.
China did not recognize the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal ruling that took the side of the Philippines in its claim of ownership over the West Philippine Sea. The Chinese government continued to assert its claim on the disputed island.

The recent reports even showed that there were times when the tension between the Philippine and the Chinese Coast Guard authorities have taken a different level. Recently, the senators clashed on another issue that is also linked to the territorial dispute between the two (2) countries.
The lawmakers in the Senate have different views over PCG spokesperson Jay Tarriela using a caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jin Ping in a lecture at a university. In the said discussion, he talked about “Why China remains to be bully?”

is one of those who are against the action of PCG spokesperson Jay Tarriela. According to the minority Senator, even if he is part of the opposition, he will also get angry if the same thing will be done to President Bongbong Marcos.
Padilla also asked the PH Coast Guard why they did not purchase strong water cannons and fired back at China — which in return earned him criticisms. Another minority senator, Rodante Marcoleta, also received backlash over his belief that the Philippines should allegedly consider “giving up” the
Kalayaan
Group of Islands.

Recently, during a plenary debate, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano slammed PCG’s Jay Tarriela over the controversial caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jin Ping. Recently, the PH Coast Guard Official clarified his stand on the West Philippine Sea issue.
“Sabi ko nga, this is a very heartbreaking job. Every day makikita mo mukha mo sa social media, mina-mock ni Sen. Cayetano, chine-challenge ni Sen. Marcoleta. Mukha bang enjoying ’to? I mean, nakakapagod na rin… Pero, I need to keep on doing this,”
