2 Security Guards Fired After Beating Teenager at Pasig River Esplanade
Two security guards assigned at the Pasig River Esplanade in Manila were immediately dismissed from their jobs after being involved in the beating of a 17-year-old boy.
The incident sparked public anger and raised concerns about the proper conduct of security personnel in public spaces.
Once the report reached authorities, an investigation was quickly launched to understand what really happened.
Officials stressed that violence has no place in maintaining peace and order, especially when minors are involved. Because of this, the Intramuros Administration ordered the immediate termination of the guards while the investigation continued.
The agency also said that proper penalties will be imposed on the security company based on their contract. This includes the possibility of blacklisting the firm if violations are proven.
Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso presented the two guards to the public. The incident had drawn wide attention after videos circulated online showing the teenager being assaulted at the esplanade on Sunday night, February 8. Many netizens expressed concern over the use of force and called for accountability.
The two guards explained that they acted out of strong emotions after the teenager allegedly said hurtful words to them. However, authorities reminded everyone that being insulted does not justify physical harm, especially toward a young person.
City officials emphasized the importance of discipline, patience, and proper training among guards assigned to public areas. Parents and community members also called for safer spaces where young people can feel protected, not afraid.
