Two Men Swept Away by Floodwaters While Gathering Coconuts in Aklan
Two men were swept away by strong floodwaters while gathering coconuts in Barangay Aparicio, Ibajay, Aklan.
On Monday (February 9, 2026), the frightening incident was caught on CCTV and later spread on social media.
One of the men, wearing a white shirt, moved closer to the stream to reach a coconut that had drifted into a deeper area. As he stepped forward, the rushing water suddenly pulled him off balance and dragged him away.
Seeing his companion in danger, another man immediately tried to reach for his hand to help him get back to safety.
However, the strong current made it impossible for him to stand on his ground. Instead of rescuing his friend, he was also swept away by the floodwaters. Both men were carried by the fast-moving water and fell into the stream.
The two were later identified as Gerry and Romel, residents of the area. They explained that they could not withstand the strength of the current, which led to them being dragged by the flood.
Despite the danger, they struggled to stay calm and used their remaining strength to swim toward the side of the stream
After a few moments, both men managed to reach the edge and climb to safety. They suffered minor injuries and scratches but survived the incident. They were taken to a medical facility and are now recovering.
The public must stay alert during heavy rains, as swollen streams and floodwaters can become deadly in an instant.
