Yolanda Housing Awardee in Silay City Files Complaint After House Was Taken Back
A Yolanda housing awardee in Silay City, Negros Occidental has raised concerns after her house was taken back.
The complainant raised her concern after the Silay Housing Authority reportedly took back the house that was previously awarded to her and gave it to someone else.
The woman sought help through the Ipa-Bombo Ta segment of Bombo Radyo Bacolod to air her side. She explained that the house, located at Block 33, Lot 8, Phase 1 of Malipayon Village in Barangay E. Lopez, was officially awarded to her on December 28, 2022.
According to her, the house had already started to show signs of damage, especially the windows and doors, which needed repairs. She said they had planned to fix the problems little by little.
In fact, she had already bought a new door and placed it inside the house, ready to be installed. However, she had not yet purchased the hinges needed to complete the repair.
In September 2025, her student child was hospitalized, forcing the family to temporarily stay in Barangay Balaring with another child. Because of this situation, they were not able to stay in the awarded house for some time.
She later found out that the housing unit had been taken back by the Silay Housing Authority and given to another beneficiary. The complainant expressed her disappointment, saying she did not abandon the property and had plans to improve it despite their financial struggles.
