A 8-year-old student dies after she was allegedly struck on the head with a notebook by a male classmate inside a public school in Davao City.

On July 17, 2026, two children had a disagreement during school hours. The boy allegedly hit the young girl with a notebook during the altercation. According to police investigators,

“Nangyari daw po ay nag-away ang dalawang bata. Allegedly, hinampas ng subject ‘yung batang babae ng notebook sa ulo. As of this time, ito pa lang po ang confirmed talaga na ginawa nung batang lalaki sa batang babae wherein inamin niya sa teacher na hinampas niya talaga sa notebook ‘yung babae,”

Sta. Ana Police Station Chief Police Major Marc Hedssel Culaste said.

On July 21, 2026, she was brought to a hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away later that same day despite efforts to save her.

Initial findings from medical personnel indicated that the child suffered from brain failure and traumatic brain injury. However, authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to wait for additional medical reports and examination results that may provide a clearer picture of what happened.

Police are also reviewing all available information to determine the circumstances surrounding the case. Further medical findings, including results from additional tests conducted on the child, are expected to play an important role in the investigation.

The girl’s mother reportedly told authorities that her daughter had experienced bullying at school before the incident. Meanwhile, the school administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the case.

The Department of Education in Davao Region confirmed that the Davao City Division has already begun its own investigation. Education officials also said that psychosocial support and counseling services will be provided to students affected by the incident.
