Authorities Arrest Man Arrested After Escaping Checkpoint in Quezon City
A man who was trying to escape a checkpoint in Quezon City was arrested after the authorities learned that his motorcycle was turned out to be stolen.
A 29-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested after attempting to escape from a police checkpoint when officers stopped him for not wearing a helmet and riding in slippers along Del Monte Avenue and FPJ Avenue in Barangay Paraiso on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
According to Masambong Police Station Commander PLt. Col. Rolando Baula, the rider was brought to the station after officers managed to chase and catch him. The police initially flagged him down because he was riding without proper safety gear.
They also noticed he was wearing only slippers while driving. Instead of cooperating, the man tried to speed away, leading to a brief chase before he was finally cornered.
During the arrest, police found an improvised firearm loaded with bullets in his possession. This discovery added to the seriousness of the situation, but the surprise did not end there. Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle he was using was actually stolen.
CCTV footage from November 21 in Barangay Del Monte showed the suspect approaching a parked motorcycle before taking it and driving away. The owner had accidentally left the key on the motorcycle, making it an easy target.
When the owner later saw the recovered unit, he immediately confirmed it was his, and his identification matched the ORCR of the vehicle.
The suspect admitted that the motorcycle was indeed stolen, saying he only took it because the key had been left behind and he wanted something to use for transportation. However, he refused to explain whether the seized firearm belonged to him.
He now faces several charges, including violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act, the Motorcycle Helmet Act, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
