DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon Vows To Use Agency’s Budget Right

VINCE DIZON

– The Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways spoke on the reduced budget for the agency for 2026.

During the bicameral conference committee, the DPWH requested for the return of a part of the budget cut from the agency’s initial proposal. The plea gathered different reactions from the members of the committee.

DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon asked the bicam to restore P45 billion to the agency’s budget for 2026

. According to the Public Works Chief, there are allegedly changes in the Construction Materials Price Data (CMPD) and at least 10,000 projects of the agency may be affected if the request won’t be granted.

The appeal of the agency did not sit well with some senators. Presidential sister and Senator

Imee Marcos slammed Dizon for asking for additional budget for the DPWH but having no trust on the engineers

who will implement the projects. She also chided the Public Works Chief for his change of script.

As for Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson, the DPWH should clarify if they committed a mistake in their computation. The Senator claimed that the bicam is allegedly appearing as the villain if they will add budget to the agency without the clarification.

The bicam concluded with a decision to give P529 billion as DPWH budget for 2026. Recently, Public Works Chief Vince Dizon was asked if it will affect the agency as they will be given a lower budget for next year.

“Unang-una nagpapasalamat po tayo sa bicameral conference committee, sa Senate at sa House lalong-lalo na kay Sen. Win Gatchalian at Congresswoman chairperson Mika Suansing. Grabe po ‘yung ginawa nilang trabaho. Kitang-kita naman ‘yung transparency at ‘yung openness nun na ginawa nila which is unprecedented. Congratulations to the Senate and the House,”

the DPWH Chief said.

Based on the

post

, DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon stressed that over P300 billion was removed from the proposed budget of the agency. Meanwhile, he stressed that what is important is that the national budget is clean.

“The DPWH budget, at least P529 billion which is 40% lower than the P881 billion originally-proposed in the NEP. More than P300 billion lower. Okay lang ‘yun kasi naniniwala ako, naniniwala ang Pangulo, at naniniwala din ang Kongreso na ang importante sa budget ay malinis siya at ma-implement siya ng tama,”

he expressed.

DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon claimed that what is wrong is if the budget of the government agency will lead to ghost and substandard projects. According to him, even if the agency’s budget is down by 40%, they will ensure that the projects will benefit the people.

“Ang masama kapag ang mga proyekto sa budget ginawang ghost, ginawang substandard, pinagkakitaan. ‘Yun ang masama. ‘Yun ang nakita natin nitong mga nakaraang taon. Kahit na bumaba ‘yan 40%, ‘yang budget na iyan ay mapupunta sa mga kababayan natin para sa mga tamang project na makakatulong sa kanila,”

he said.
