Former DPWH Usec. Cathy Cabral’s Computer Turned Over to Ombudsman’s Office

– The Department of Public Works and Highways surrendered the former DPWH Undersecretary’s computer and files to the Ombudsman.
The death of former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral sparked countless questions and speculations. It also sparked different reactions from the Filipino people. The former Public Works official’s body was found unconscious and unresponsive near the river in Benguet.
Former DPWH Usec. Cabral allegedly died from falling from a cliff based on the initial report of the police authorities. Her body was found 20-30 meters near the Bued River in Tuba, Benguet.
Cabral family believes that former DPWH Usec. Cathy Cabral’s death is “accidental”
. They initially refused to have her remains undergo an autopsy. They signed a waiver and stressed their belief that she accidentally fell from the cliff.
However, several questions surrounded the death of the former Public Works official. She was one of the people whose names were dragged in the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption issue in the country. There were also questions about former DPWH Usec. Cathy Cabral’s computer which allegedly holds a lot of details regarding the budget insertions.

The authorities returned to the site where the body of former DPWH Usec. Cathy Cabral’s body was found and investigated in the area. They also searched and investigated the hotel room where she last stayed in Baguio prior to her death.
Based on a
report
on TV Patrol, a knife and some medicines were found in the said hotel room. The hotel was reportedly owned by Cabral before it was allegedly sold to Congressman Eric Yap.
Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways surrendered former DPWH Usec. Cathy Cabral’s computer to the Office of the Ombudsman. The government agency also surrendered her files to the office of the country’s chief graft-buster.
According to the DPWH, former Usec. Cathy Cabral’s computer was the one she used in her 10-year stint in the department. The turn over of the device and the files came after the Office of the Ombudsman issued a subpoena duces tecum.
