Thief Spends Christmas in Jail After Stealing Cigarettes & Cash from Sari-Sari Store

Thief Placed Behind Bars After Stealing Cigarettes & Cash from Sari-Sari Store in Antipolo City

A 24-year-old thief has spent Christmas in jail after he was caught stealing cigarettes and cash from a sari-sari store in Antipolo City, Rizal.

The suspect was arrested for taking 15 cartons of cigarettes and around P6,000 in cash from a small neighborhood store in Barangay San Isidro. The incident happened on Wednesday morning (December 24, 2025), just a day before Christmas.

CCTV footage showed the man entering the store as if he were a regular customer. He acted calmly at first, making it appear that he was simply going to buy something. Moments later, he was seen tampering with the front area of the store where the cigarettes were displayed.

The man left the store carrying a container filled with cigarette cartons. The store owner later discovered that the cash kept in the cigarette holder, including sales money and receipts, was already missing.

The store owner immediately asked help from barangay officials and reviewed the CCTV footage to identify the suspect.

Authorities later confirmed that the suspect was a nearby resident known by the alias MM. Barangay officials revealed that he had a history of theft and had only been released from jail less than a week earlier.

Records showed that the man had previous cases involving illegal drugs and public disturbance. This time, a formal theft complaint will be filed against him. He is currently detained at the Antipolo Police custodial facility.
