Authorities Arrest Elderly Man for Illegal Sale of Firecrackers
ELDERLY MAN – A 63-year-old shop owner was arrested for illegal sale of firecrackers in Puerto Princesa City.
The arrest was carried out by personnel from Police Station 3 at around eleven in the morning on Monday, December 29, 2025. The operation took place in Barangay Inagawan Sub, where officers discovered that the elderly man was selling fireworks without the required permits and legal documents.
During the inspection, police recovered several fireworks from the suspect’s store. These included about one hundred pieces of small firecrackers known as kwitis and another one hundred pieces of three-star firecrackers, also called labintador.
The total value of the seized items was estimated to be close to two thousand pesos. Although the amount may seem small, authorities stressed that unregulated fireworks can still pose serious risks to people, especially children and nearby residents.
According to the police, selling fireworks without proper authorization is a clear violation of local laws. The suspect was found to be in breach of City Ordinance No. 379-2008, which regulates the sale, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices within Puerto Princesa City.
The ordinance was created to prevent accidents, injuries, and fires, particularly during festive seasons when fireworks are commonly used.
The elderly shop owner was taken into custody and informed of his violation. The confiscated fireworks were secured by the authorities as part of the case.
