Man Hit by Stray Bullet in the Neck as Barangay Official Is Arrested
A man was hit by a stray bullet in the neck on the first day of 2026, the barangay kagawad who fired the gun was arrested.
The incident happened in Barangay Pinagbarilan, Baliwag, Bulacan. while residents were still welcoming the new year with simple gatherings.
According to police, the victim was sitting under a mango tree, resting on a chair and talking with others as they celebrated New Year’s Eve. Without warning, he suddenly collapsed after being struck by a stray bullet.
People around him were shocked and immediately sought help as they realized he had been hit.
The Baliwag Police quickly responded and launched an investigation to find where the gunshot came from. Their search led them to a nearby house, where they made a disturbing discovery. In front of the house, officers found many empty bullet shells scattered on the ground, raising serious concern about the amount of gunfire that took place.
Further investigation showed that at least ten fired bullet shells came from a 9mm and a .22 caliber gun. Police later arrested a barangay kagawad who was identified as the person responsible for firing the gun.
The official surrendered the firearms, which were confirmed to be registered. Despite this, celebratory gunfire remains illegal and dangerous.
Similar incidents were also reported in other areas. In Sampaloc, Manila, two men were arrested after allegedly firing a gun, with authorities recovering a .45 caliber firearm, bullet shells, and ammunition.
Another man was also arrested in Tondo for the same offense. In Kalibo, Aklan, a stray bullet pierced the roof of a house and landed on the floor, though no one was hurt.
