On Wednesday (January 7, 2026), classes across several cities and towns in Albay were suspended, as residents faced the combined effects of bad weather and growing volcanic activity from Mayon Volcano.
Local officials decided to halt face-to-face classes to keep students, teachers, and school staff safe during the developing situation.
Heavy rains and unstable conditions have raised concerns about flooding, landslides, and road safety. At the same time, Mayon Volcano remains restless, adding another layer of risk for communities nearby.
