Retired PNP General Faces Administrative Case Over Expensive Shoes & Policy Issues

A retired Philippine National Police general is facing an administrative case for sporting P70,000 while still wearing a police uniform.

The National Police Commission confirmed that a case has been filed against retired Police Brigadier General Jezebel Imelda Medina, who previously served as Health Service chief of the PNP.

According to NAPOLCOM, the complaint is based on two main concerns. The first involves the alleged failure to comply with repeated directives to submit psychiatric and psychological reports for a police patrolman from the Quezon City Police District.

The patrolman, who was also active as a vlogger, was required to undergo assessment due to online posts considered harmful. At the time, Medina was leading the PNP Health Service, which was responsible for providing the needed reports.

The second issue that caught public attention was Medina’s appearance wearing police uniform paired with shoes reportedly worth more than P70,000. NAPOLCOM noted that the price of the shoes was nearly equal to a month’s basic salary of a police brigadier general.

The commission raised concerns that such a public display did not reflect the values of modest living and ethical conduct expected from senior police officials.

Medina is facing allegations of less grave neglect of duty and conduct unbecoming of a police officer due to the issue.

The agency emphasized that retirement or rank does not excuse anyone from accountability. Any action that weakens public trust in the police institution will be reviewed and addressed properly.
