DUTERTE CAMP
– Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) the findings of their camp’s assessment on the medical condition of the former President.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte remains detained under the custody of the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands for 10 months now. It was previously reported that the
evidence against Duterte filed by the ICC prosecutor is already over 1,000 now
. The foreign court previously denied the interim release appeal of the former President.
After the International Criminal Court junked Duterte’s interim release bid, the Duterte camp filed for an appeal over the foreign court’s decision. The said appeal was decided on last November 28 but the ruling of the foreign court did not favor the former President.
The Duterte camp claimed that they accept the ICC ruling on the former President’s interim release appeal “with open hearts”. His lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, said they did their best and might seek his interim release again after his medical reports are out.
The ICC requested the former President to undergo a medical checkup of thre (3) health experts after his lawyer claimed that he is allegedly unfit to stand trial. Kaufman also said that the former President is allegedly suffering from a cognitive impairment.
“The new medical evidence is proffered in order to assist the Pre-Trial Chamber in assessing whether Mr. Duterte’s medical condition sufficiently mitigates his capacity to actualise the statutory risk factors, such that his release to the State Party that has expressed its willingness to receive him may now be contemplated,”
the filing of the Duterte camp said.
Based on the
report
, Nicholas Kaufman claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte allegedly “lacks executive functioning, sustained planning capacity, rapid decision-making, physical stamina, and the ability to evade supervision”. Furthermore, the British-Israeli Lawyer also claimed that none of the medical experts who checked on the former President allegedly found “any clinical indication of disinhibition, aggression, or manipulative behavioural tendencies” on his client.
Duterte’s legal counsel also claimed in the filing that the former President is allegedly suffering from “unexplained weight loss” and is now supposedly an inform and incapacitated shadow of his previous self.
The International Criminal Court has yet to decide on the 12-page filing that was made last January 9. Recently, Duterte’s former spokesman,
Harry Roque, sought prayers for former Pres. Duterte amid his ICC detention
