Grade 6 Student Injured After Being Choked by Classmate Inside School Classroom

A Grade 6 student was injured after being choked by a classmate inside their classroom at a public school in Bugasong, Antique.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the incident raised concern among parents, teachers, and local authorities about student safety inside schools.

According to the Bugasong Municipal Police Station, the incident happened while the teacher had not yet arrived in the classroom. One student mistakenly believed that a classmate had kicked him.

Acting on this misunderstanding, the student suddenly approached his classmate and grabbed him by the neck. The choking continued until the victim fell to the floor.

Based on CCTV footage reviewed by the police, the fall caused the victim’s left elbow to become dislocated. The injury left the child in pain and shock, alarming other classmates who witnessed the commotion. They quickly intervened and asked for help from school personnel.

The injured student was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that the dislocated elbow may require surgery. The situation was difficult for both the child and the family, but the school administration stepped in to help shoulder some of the medical expenses.

School officials, including the principal and the district supervisor of the Department of Education in Bugasong, were asked to explain the incident and review school safety measures. Parents of both the students who caused the harm and the victim were also called in to discuss the situation and ensure proper guidance and support for their children.
