Tropical Depression Ada Slightly Strengthens While Moving East of Mindanao

PAGASA Releases Latest Update on Tropical Depression Ada

Tropical Depression Ada has slightly gained strength as it continues to move over the waters east of Mindanao, bringing bad weather to several parts of the country.

On Thursday (January 15, 2026), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Depression Ada and the Northeast Monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the center of Ada was last spotted 485 kilometers East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, slowly organizing while moving northwest at a steady speed.

Ada now has maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Its winds cover a wide area, affecting locations far from the center.

Signal No. 1 remains in effect in several parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, including Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and the provinces of Surigao.

The weather disturbance may pass close to Eastern Samar and Northern Samar late Friday night or early Saturday. By Sunday morning (January 18), it may move nearer to Catanduanes before turning toward the north-northeast by Monday.

Weather experts also warned that a slight shift toward the west could cause the system to make landfall in parts of Eastern Visayas or the Bicol Region.

Aside from the tropical depression, the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as amihan, is also affecting the country. It will bring cloudy skies and periods of rain to northern and eastern areas.

Eastern Samar, Surigao del Norte, and the Dinagat Islands may experience moderate to heavy rains and gusty winds, which could lead to flash floods or landslides in some areas.

Other parts of Visayas, Caraga, Bicol, and nearby provinces will also have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and much of Luzon may see light rains with little impact.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Northern Luzon, and the eastern sections of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon, eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao will be moderate to rough.

The remaining parts of the country will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to

PAGASA
