Woman Arrested for Breaking Into Priest’s Room & Stealing Nearly P200,000

Woman Arrested for Stealing Nearly P200,000 Inside Priest’s Room in Cebu

A woman was arrested in Minglanilla, Cebu after breaking into a rented room of a priest and stealing almost P200,000 in cash.

On late Wednesday night, January 14, 2026, a woman identified as 31-year-old Christine Amante Ababon, a resident of Barangay Bulacao in Cebu City was arrested for robbing a priest.

Investigators said she allegedly used special tools to unlock the door of the priest’s room without permission. Once inside, she took a large amount of cash and immediately left the area, heading toward Cebu City.

The priest noticed something was wrong when he returned to his room in the late afternoon. He saw signs that the door had been tampered with and soon realized that the money he had kept was gone.

The missing cash included donations collected from church activities during the Christmas season and the New Year.

Only P15,000 was recovered from the stolen amount. Authorities said the rest of the money had already been used to buy a new motorcycle and a karaoke speaker. Further investigation showed that the suspect had been involved in similar theft cases in other parts of Cebu.

Police believe that her arrest prevented more possible crimes, especially with the Sinulog festivities approaching. Authorities reminded the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities to help keep communities safe.
