Residents of
Caramoan, Camarines Sur
were shocked after a small wooden coffin was found washed ashore along the town’s coastline.
Reports said
that residents of Zone 6 in Barangay Paniman were disturbed after fisherman
Joselito Ortil
discovered the coffin at around 7:50 a.m. on January 14.
He immediately reported the incident to authorities, who opened the coffin and found bones believed to belong to a child.
The investigation revealed that the coffin may have been dislodged from the cemetery in Barangay Oring by strong waves and bad weather before being carried to Barangay Paniman.
This was also
reportedly
not the first time such an incident had occurred as similar cases were previously reported during periods of inclement weather brought by tropical cyclones.
Meanwhile, the coffin is now in the custody of Barangay Paniman, as authorities continue to coordinate efforts for a thorough investigation.
The public is advised to remain cautious of objects washed ashore along the coastline, especially during bad weather.
