Vegetable Vendor in Taytay Shot in the Head While on Livestream
A 23-year-old female vegetable vendor was seriously injured after she was shot in the head while livestreaming in Taytay, Rizal.
On Friday evening, January 16, 2026, a young woman was busy selling vegetables along the roadside in Purok 4, Barangay Sta. Ana, unaware of the danger approaching her from behind.
During the livestream, a man wearing a hat and a face mask quietly walked toward the victim. Without warning, he pulled out a gun and fired at her head at close range. The victim immediately collapsed on the road, causing panic among nearby vendors and residents.
People who were watching the livestream in real time also witnessed the sudden violence and called for help.
Witnesses in the area initially thought they heard a tire explode, but quickly realized something was wrong when they saw the woman lying on the ground, covered in blood. Those nearby rushed to her side and tried to find a tricycle to bring her to the hospital, but many drivers were afraid to stop.
Despite the fear, concerned residents continued asking for help until authorities arrived. After the shooting, the suspect was seen calmly walking away from the scene. He reportedly headed toward a secondary road where an accomplice on a motorcycle was believed to be waiting.
Police launched a hot pursuit operation early Saturday morning (January 17, 2026) and arrested the 31-year-old suspect at his place in Angono, Rizal.
However, the suspect denied the accusations and claimed he was not in Taytay at the time of the incident.
