Woman Drowns Young Daughter After Hearing Voices

A woman in Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur drowns her four-year-old girl in the sea after claiming she heard voices.

The child, identified as Kimberly, was last seen going to the sea with her parents on the afternoon of January 20. According to reports, neighbors noticed the family heading toward the shore.

A barangay official became concerned after seeing the couple and their child bathing in the sea, as the situation appeared unsafe for a young child. He tried to warn them, but the father suddenly ran away, leaving the mother and child behind.

Around three in the afternoon, residents discovered Kimberly’s lifeless body along the beach. Her mother was nowhere to be found at the time, causing fear and confusion in the area. Authorities were immediately alerted, and a search operation was launched.

Police later arrested the mother, identified as Cherrylyn, who admitted during questioning that she drowned her daughter in the sea. She claimed that voices were telling her to do so and insisted that a spirit led the child into deeper waters.

Investigators believe the suspect may have been experiencing extreme stress or depression at the time of the incident.

Further information from the child’s grandparents revealed that before going to the sea, the parents were seen praying and performing what appeared to be a ritual behind their house. It raised more questions about the mental and emotional state of the mother leading up to the tragedy.

The father was initially considered a suspect but was later cleared after the mother confessed and admitted she was the last person with the child. He reportedly denied any involvement and pointed to his wife as the one responsible.

The mother is now in police custody while authorities continue to investigate the case.
