Police Officer Faces Show Cause Order from LTO for Apprehending Firetruck During Emergency
A police officer who blocked a fire truck responding to an emergency is facing a show-cause order from LTO.
Recently, the Land Transportation Office issued a show cause order against the driver and owner of the vehicle involved. The post garnered variouis reactions from the online community.
According to reports, the driver of a Toyota Vios, believed to be a police officer, allegedly stopped in front of a fire truck and prevented it from moving forward. The situation became more serious when the driver was also seen making inappropriate gestures and remarks toward the fire truck driver.
Many netizens expressed concern, saying the delay could have put lives and property at risk. Because of the incident, the LTO, under the leadership of Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, took immediate action.
The agency stressed that emergency vehicles such as fire trucks must always be given priority on the road. Blocking them, especially during active duty, is considered a serious violation and goes against the responsibility expected from all road users, more so from public servants.
As part of the investigation, the driver and vehicle owner were ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division in Quezon City on January 29, 2026. They are required to submit a sworn explanation and supporting documents to explain why they should not face administrative charges and possible suspension or cancellation of the driver’s license.
