There was an ambush attempt against Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan, and this is what VP Sara Duterte said.
PRO Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (BAR) spokesperson Police Captain Steffi Salungit said the mayor was aboard an armored, bulletproof black Toyota Land Cruiser, which absorbed the impact of the explosion. However, two of the mayor’s men were hit and were immediately given medical attention. Both are now stable and in good condition.
On Monday, Vice President Sara Duterte called to probe into the incident deeper, and described it as a “degradation of peace and order.” As a Mindanaoan herself, she condemned the act.
“Napapansin ko sa mga awtoridad parang life goes on — normal lang na meron kang nakikitang RPG sa gitna ng daan in broad daylight. Hindi yan normal at hindi yan dapat pinapalampas, dapat merong malalim na imbestigasyon,”
she said.
She also asked how these things can happen and how those individuals were able to acquire an RPG.
“Paano nangyari ito at paano nagkakaroon ng RPG ang mga — siguro sabihin na natin, sibilyan. Kasi hindi naman talaga ‘yun mga uniformed personnel,”
the Vice President added.
Meanwhile, in the incident, three of the suspects were killed. In the CCTV recording obtained by the authorities, armed men disembarked from a waiting minivan before launching the assault. After it happened, police, military, and community watch forces launched a hot pursuit operation that targeted the attackers.
