Former Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez Dead at 52
In its statement, the commission expressed deep sorrow over Jimenez’s death and paid tribute to his long-standing contribution to the institution.
“The Commission on Elections mourns the passing of James B. Jimenez, former Spokesperson and Director IV, Education and Information Department of the Commission, who served the institution and the Filipino people with integrity, clarity, and utmost dedication,”
the Comelec said.

The poll body also extended its sympathies to the bereaved family and loved ones of the former spokesperson, recognizing not only his professional achievements but also his lasting impact on public service.
“COMELEC extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and loved ones. We honor his legacy of public service and his enduring contribution to election transparency and voter education,”
the agency added in its message of condolence.
According to the Comelec, Jimenez held a unique place in the institution’s history. He was known as the “longest-serving” and “youngest spokesperson” in government at the time of his appointment. His tenure spanned 2006 to 2022, making him one of the commission’s most recognizable faces and voices for more than a decade.
Throughout his years of service, Jimenez played a crucial role in communicating election-related information to the public, helping explain complex electoral processes in a clear and accessible manner. His calm demeanor and straightforward communication style earned him respect from both the media and the public.
Aside from serving as Comelec spokesperson, Jimenez also held the position of Director IV of the Education and Information Department. In this role, he was instrumental in advancing voter education initiatives and promoting transparency in the country’s electoral system.
