Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Visits Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Inside the ICC Detention Facility Anew

– The Vice President confirmed that she will ask former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte about the public concern his lawyers for his case before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
ICC set a new schedule for the confirmation of charges hearing of former Pres. Duterte
. It is set on February but the schedule may change depending on the developments of the case.
Duterte is faced with three counts of murder as alleged “crimes against humanity” filed by the ICC prosecutors. Previously, his confirmation of charges hearing was postponed after his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, claimed that the former President is allegedly not fit to stand trial.
According to the British-Israeli Lawyer, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte allegedly suffers from cognitive impairment. He claimed that the former President could hardly remember events, places, and even members of his family.
The ICC ordered Duterte to undergo the assessment and checkup of three (3) medical experts. Its recent ruling that the former President is fit to stand the pre-trial proceedings is based on the findings of the medical experts.
The lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte claimed that they will appeal the findings of the ICC and argue that the former President was allegedly denied of the due process. The
ICC also previously junked the interim release appeal of Duterte
Amid the recent series of unfavorable rulings of the ICC on former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and the defense team, there are concerns from the Filipinos regarding the lawyers of the former President. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed that she will ask her father about it.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands to visit former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a
report
on Inquirer, after a visit to her father, she was asked by their supporters about the public concern regarding the ICC legal team of the former President.
“Oo nga, sinabi ko pala ‘no na itatanong ko ‘yan kanina. Nakalimutan ko siya. Sorry, I will ask that question tomorrow of former president Duterte. I forgot that question kanina,”
the Vice President said.
Amid the continued detention of her father since March 2025, Vice Pres.
Sara Duterte told their supporters to just assume that the ICC will really imprison former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte
. According to her, the actions of the foreign court shows that it is leading to it.
