Viral Overloaded Modernized Jeep in Bacolod Now Under LTO-NIR Investigation

LTO-NIR to Probe Viral Overloaded Modernized Jeep in Bacolod City

The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region has started an investigation into a viral video showing an overloaded modernized jeep in Bacolod City.

The viral video showed a modern jeep filled beyond capacity, with many passengers standing closely together. Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed the investigation on Wednesday evening (January 28, 2026), saying the situation posed a serious risk to public safety.

The issue came after a passenger named Nida Gallonon Orduyo previously complained about an overcrowded modernized jeepney operating on the Alijis route.

She was traveling with her grandchildren and became worried about their safety due to the extreme crowd inside the vehicle. She also reported that the conductor continued to accept more passengers and did not give fare discounts to senior citizens and students, charging everyone the same amount even for short trips.

The mayor added that the LTO-NIR is set to issue a show cause order against the operator of the modernized jeepney involved. The operator will be required to explain why they should not face penalties for violating transport rules.

Authorities confirmed that the modern jeepney in the video operates along the Alijis route. The LTO-NIR is now reviewing the footage and gathering reports to determine accountability.
