Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Faced w/ 2 Impeachment Raps Ahead of Ban Lifting

– Two (2) impeachment complaints were filed against the Vice President today before the Office of the House Secretary General.
Several impeachment raps were previously filed against Vice Pres. Duterte by the House of Representatives. However, ahead of the Senate impeachment trial which many Filipinos called to start, the Supreme Court ruled on the impeachment rap that reached the upper chamber.

. The high court explained that the impeachment rap violates the one-year ban rule. According to SC, a fresh impeachment complaint may only be filed against the Vice President starting February 6.
Nineteen (19) senators voted in favor of archiving the impeachment rap against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Only four (4) of them opposed the motion and one of the lawmakers in the Senate in the 20th Congress abstained from making a vote — Sen. Ping Lacson.

Ping Lacson claimed that he and then-Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto will revive the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Duterte
if the Supreme Court changes its ruling. The House of Representatives filed a motion for reconsideration on the ruling of the high court that tagged the impeachment rap as unconstitutional.
The first impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was filed by the Makabayan bloc. The Vice President is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust and gross abuse of discretionary powers over the alleged misuse of the P625-million confidential funds of the offices she led.
