During the last months of 2025, thousands of Filipinos were on the streets for the so-called “Trillion Peso March” — it was organized to call for an end to corruption amid the supposed massive flood control corruption in the country. Several members of the House of Representatives as well as officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were tagged in the issue.
Some senators and former senators were also tagged in the flood control mess. Amid the issue, a change of leadership from Senator Chiz Escudero to now-Senate Pres. Tito Sotto took place. The latter was the minority leader before he assumed the Senate presidency.
However, recently, talks about the possible change of Senate leadership circulated and gathered different opinions from the people. The rumors came amid the claim of Senate Pres.
Tito Sotto that he is ready to support the cha-cha after the ruling of the Supreme Court on the impeachment case versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte
The SC affirmed its previous ruling on the impeachment rap against Duterte. According to the high court, the impeachment complaint violates the one-year ban rule and is therefore unconstitutional. Its decision earned different reactions.
Previously, Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson who was still a minority senator then claimed that he and now-Senate Pres. Tito Sotto will revive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte if the Supreme Court will change its ruling. The upper chamber archived the impeachment rap after the SC ruling was out. Nineteen senators voted for the archiving of the impeachment complaint.

Senate Pres. Tito Sotto admitted that some of his colleagues in the chamber may not be happy with his leadership style. Based on the

, he claimed that he is supposedly strict when it comes to budget insertion.
“Ano bang iniisip ko na maaaring hindi natutuwa ang ilan sa mga kasama? Baka dahil mahigpit ako, mahigpit ako sa insertion sa budget,”
Sotto said.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson previously junked the rumors calling it as mere “gossip”. Recently,
