Senior Citizen Reunites w/ Stolen Taxi After Suspect Abandons It Due to Heavy Traffic
A stolen taxi of a senior citizen was recovered after the suspect abandoned the vehicle due to the heavy traffic in the area.
Last Sunday (February 1, 2026), a senior citizen taxi driver was left shaken after his vehicle was stolen, as the taxi was his main source of income.
When they reached Imperial Street, the situation suddenly turned frightening. The suspect allegedly threatened the driver with a sharp object and forced him out of the taxi, leaving the senior citizen scared and helpless on the roadside.
After taking the vehicle, the suspect drove toward EDSA but soon got stuck in heavy traffic. Unable to escape, he abandoned the taxi in Barangay Rodriguez and tried to flee on foot.
Police officers who had already been alerted responded quickly and chased the suspect through nearby streets. The pursuit ended near Ermin Garcia Street, where officers managed to corner and arrest him. He was handcuffed and brought to the Cubao Police Station.
The stolen taxi was recovered and returned to the senior citizen, bringing him relief after the stressful incident. Although deeply shaken, he was thankful that he was not seriously hurt and that his livelihood was restored.
Authorities said the suspect admitted to taking the taxi but denied harming the driver. Records also showed that the suspect had been arrested before for a drug-related case in 2023. He is now detained and facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act.
