An animal welfare organization is opening its doors for people to “date” shelter cats and dogs this Love Month as a fundraising initiative.

Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)

is inviting the public to take rescued animals on a “date” to make them feel loved this Valentine’s season.

Called “

FURst Date

,” the activity lets people go on either an online or onsite date with a shelter cat or dog on their chosen day.

Online dates via Zoom are available from February 9-10, while onsite dates at the shelter run from February 12-14.

Meanwhile, those who go on an onsite date will get to spend 30 minutes with a rescued cat or dog. They will also enjoy a guided shelter tour with a PAWS volunteer, where they can see the facility and learn more about the rescues.

For those who cannot join online or onsite, PAWS offers the option to sponsor a rescue’s date with a volunteer, including for animals who cannot participate in the regular dates so they can “feel loved, cherished, and celebrated this season of love.”

“Roses are cute. Chocolates are nice. But this Valentine’s, you can fur in love and change a life!” the org said in a post.

“This February, fur in love as you go on a heart-melting date with one of our rescues and give them the love and affection they deserve. It’s definitely an experience you’ll never furget!” PAWS added.

The activity, which has been held annually since 2019, serves as a fundraising initiative for the non-profit organization.

Since its founding in 1954, PAWS has been at the forefront of rescuing abused and neglected animals and advocating for animal rights.

The volunteer-run network is also known for conducting low-cost “kapon” procedures, particularly for indigent communities.
