Guinayangan, Quezon Residents Found Giant Oarfish Found Floating Along the Shore
A giant oarfish was found by the residents of Guinayangan, Quezon floating at the Guinayangan Municipal Fishport.

On Wednesday morning, February 4, at around 7:30 a.m, the dead oarfish was discovered by a local fisherman who noticed the large fish drifting near the fishport. Realizing that the situation was unusual, he immediately reported the finding to the Coast Guard Sub-Station in Guinayangan.
Authorities responded right away to secure the area and assess the situation. Soon after, the municipal agriculturist and fishery technicians arrived to examine the fish. Based on their findings, the oarfish measured about 3.59 meters in length, around 0.70 meters wide, and weighed approximately 22 kilograms.
Experts say that when deep-sea fish surface, it may be due to illness, injury, or changes in ocean conditions.
Due to the condition of the fish and to ensure public safety, authorities advised that the oarfish should not be eaten. Consumption was strictly discouraged, as the fish may pose health risks. The local government coordinated the proper handling of the situation and moved the oarfish to a designated area for safe and proper disposal.
Officials reminded the public to report similar discoveries to authorities instead of approaching or handling the animal.
