A Disagreement Over Money Between Two Tricycle Drivers in Antipolo Ended in Stabbing Incident
A debt dispute ended in violence after two tricycle drivers figured in a stabbing incident along a provincial road in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.
In the early hours of Thursday, February 5, 2026, a long-standing issue over an unpaid debt quickly turned into a dangerous confrontation that left one driver injured.
According to the Antipolo Police, the incident happened around midnight when the two drivers crossed paths while one of them was already on duty. The suspect had reportedly been demanding payment of a P5,000 debt from the victim for quite some time.
The money was allegedly meant for a tricycle unit under a boundary arrangement that never pushed through. When they met on the road, the suspect blocked the victim’s tricycle, causing an argument to break out in the middle of the street.
Tension rose as both men refused to back down. The suspect, 51 years old, was armed with a knife, while the 41-year-old victim held a metal pipe. Their tricycles stood between them as the argument escalated, drawing attention from nearby residents.
The confrontation turned violent when the suspect suddenly attacked the victim with the knife. One of the victim’s fingers was nearly severed during the assault. Despite his injury, the situation was quickly brought under control after barangay tanods and police officers on patrol arrived and intervened. Both weapons were confiscated without further resistance.
The injured driver was rushed to the hospital for treatment and is now recovering in stable condition. Meanwhile, the suspect was taken into police custody and brought to the station for investigation.
Police officials said their continued patrols and visibility in the area helped prevent a more serious outcome. The suspect is now facing a charge of attempted homicide and remains detained at the Antipolo police custodial facility.
