Camp of Former Pres. Duterte Appeals ICC Ruling

– The camp of the former President asserted his alleged “enfeebled physical state” and sought his immediate release.
FPRRD remains under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for nearly 11 months now. He is currently detained at the ICC detention center in The Hague, Netherlands. Since the transfer of his custody, the former President’s children were taking turns in visiting him inside the detention facility.
ICC said that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is fit to stand trial
based on the medical checking on him. The order of the foreign court for the former President to undergo a checkup came after his lawyer claimed that Duterte’s allegedly suffering from a cognitive impairment and is not fit to stand trial.
Nicholas Kaufman, the lead counsel of FPRRD, claimed that the former President allegedly hardly remember events, places, and even close members of his family. The ICC postponed the September 2025 schedule set for the confirmation of charges hearing.

Furthermore, according to Nicholas Kafuman, the former President also allegedly lacks “executive functioning, sustained planning capacity, and rapid decision-making – to say nothing of his enfeebled physical state – that would make it impossible for him to evade custody” citing the medical report.
