Malacañang Says ‘Too Early’ To Say Marcos Jr. Anti-Corruption Purge in Gov’t Failed

Statement of Malacañang on the Recent Remarks of BSP Governor Eli Remolona

Malacañang claimed that it is supposedly ‘too early’ to say that the anti-corruption purge of Pres. Bongbong Marcos in the government failed.

Several officials of the Philippine government were tagged in the supposed multi-billion flood control mess in the country. A lot of members of the House of Representatives as well as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects of the government.

Aside from the DPWH officials and the House members, some senators and former senators were also tagged in the flood control mess. It triggered the so-called ‘Trillion Peso March’ that transpired last September and November.

Thousands of Filipinos joined the street protests to call for accountability and an end to corruption. Several celebrities even joined the said rallies and expressed their call on the government to act on the supposed practices of stealing the people’s money.

Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the creation of an independent commission that will investigate the supposed massive corruption through the infrastructures funded by the government. The executive order led to the creation of the ICI.

After investigating the flood control mess for more than three (3) months already, the

ICI recently submitted a 125-day report on the flood control investigation

and it is allegedly “substantial and measurable”. Many Filipinos are curious as to what might happen next to the commission.

Recently,

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas

Malacañang reacted to the statement of BSP Gov. Eli Remolona. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, it is supposedly ‘too early’ to say that the efforts of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to curb corruption has failed.

“Sa ngayon ay masyado pang maaga na pag-usapan kung may failure to make these culprits liable for their acts,”

the Malacañang press official said.

Atty. Claire Castro stressed that the Philippines is no longer in the grey list of the FATF, thus, Marcos Jr. continues to order the investigation of the flood control issue to bring it into a conclusion. Based on the

report

, the Malacañang press official said it is in line with the pursuit of cleaning the country.

“Sa ngayon po, alam po natin, nakatanggal na po tayo sa grey list ng FATF at kaya po nagpaimbestiga ang Pangulo at tuluy-tuloy pa rin po ang pagpapanagot sa mga sangkot upang maging malinis po ang ating bansa sa isyu ng korapsyon,”

Castro expressed.

Previously, Pres. Ferdinand

Marcos Jr. admitted that he is ‘sad’ over the arrest of former Sen. Bong Revilla due to a supposed flood control corruption

. The former Senator is accused of involvement in the supposed P92.8 million ‘ghost’ flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
