Jay Tarriela, Spox of PH Coast Guard, Wants Senators To Personally See Filipino Community in Pag-asa Island

– The PCG spokesperson, Jay Tarriela, extended his invitation to join the mission flight to the
Kalayaan Island Group
to Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
The senators had different take on the issue about the caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jin Ping during a lecture of Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela as well as the remarks of the Chinese officials towards the Philippine government officials. Fifteen (15) senators supported a Senate resolution condemning the statements of the Chinese officials.
Amid the issue regarding the caricature, debates among the senators over the Philippines and China’s claims on the West Philippine Sea also took place. Previously, minority Senator Rodante Marcoleta was criticized for saying that the Philippines must consider “giving up” the Kalayaan Group of Island. He later clarified his remarks.

. According to the Senator, the remarks of his fellow lawmaker allegedly weakens the position of the country in its claim over the disputed island.
On the part of Malacañang, the Palace called Marcoleta’s remarks as part of freedom of expression but stressed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains firm that he will not surrender an inch of the country’s territory. China did not recognize the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal siding the Philippines on the issue over the disputed island.

, the PH Coast Guard official wants the lawmakers to personally see the Filipino community in Pag-asa Island. He stressed that they are the ones who must be defended and supported.
“I think it’s very important for them to see and witness na meron tayong mga kababayan dito, sila ang mga kababayan na we need to defend and support,”
