PH Coast Guard’s Jay Tarriela Throws Question for Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano

– The Philippine Coast Guard Official refuses to apologize to China over the caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The senators recently aired their different opinions over the ongoing territorial dispute between China and the Philippines. The former did not recognize the ruling of the Arbitral Tribunal which supported the claim of the Philippines on the West Philippine Sea. The decision was released in 2016.

One of the recent issues that gathered different opinions from the senators was the use of the caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jinping during the lecture of PCG spokesperson Jay Tarriela at a university. One of those who opposed the move of the PH Coast Guard Official is minority Sen. Robin Padilla.
Sen. Robin Padilla claimed that even if he is a member of the opposition, he will also get angry if the same thing will be done to Pres. Bongbong Marcos. He stressed that respect should come from both sides.

Robin Padilla also asked the Philippine Coast Guard why they did not secure stronger water cannons and fired back at China
amid the claims of alleged pressure in the disputed islands. PH Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela responded saying they recognize the purpose of the water cannons.
Tarriela stressed that water cannons are meant to help save lives and not to inflict harm or damage other vessels. The remarks of the Senator earned him massive criticisms.
Another lawmaker in the Senate who is not in favor of the use of the caricature of Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a lecture is Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. The Senator stressed that Tarriela was wearing his uniform when he did it.

Recently, PH Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela expressed his refusal on apologizing to China over the caricature of its leader, Xi Jinping. Based on a report on PhilStar, raised questions if China has already said sorry over the alleged bullying of the PCG over the years.
“Nagsorry na ba ang China sa pag-violate nila ng karapatan sa West Philippine Sea? Sa patuloy na pag-harass ng Filipino fishermen? Sa pambubully ng Philippine Coast Guard over the years?”

The PH Coast Guard officials thanked Senate President Tito Sotto, Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson, and senators Kiko Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros for standing for the country’s rights in the West Philippine Sea.
