5-Year-Old Kindergarten Student Killed by Stray Bullet Inside Classroom in Maguindanao del Sur

A kindergarten student in Maguindanao del Sur suddenly collapsed after being hit by a stray bullet inside the classroom.

On Wednesday morning (February 11, 2026), a five-year-old kindergarten student was killed by a stray bullet while inside their classroom in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur. The young child was attending class at Damabalas Elementary School when the incident happened.

At first, there was confusion and panic inside the room, as no one immediately understood the situation.

When the teacher checked on the child, it was discovered that the student had been hit by a stray bullet. The child was quickly given attention, but despite efforts to help, the young student did not survive.

The incident left teachers, students, and parents deeply shaken, especially since the classroom was supposed to be a safe place for learning and care.

Police explained that the incident happened at the same time as ongoing armed clashes between groups in a nearby barangay in Nabalawag town, which is part of the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Region.

It is believed that a bullet from the fighting traveled far and reached the school, leading to the child’s death.

Local authorities are now continuing their investigation to determine the exact source of the stray bullet and to understand how it reached the school. They are also coordinating with other agencies to assess safety conditions in nearby communities, especially schools.
