MRT Shaw Boulevard
station supervisor has been dismissed after the station made headlines for incidents in which personnel held tarpaulins and signage on the platform instead of using proper stands.
On Thursday, February 12, MRT management apologized after videos and photos of the incident surfaced.
Some commuters claimed the practice had been happening as early as last week.
“‘Di ko gets why info [information] dispersing has to be this way,” an

previously said.
“Kinawawa pa ‘yung utility worker, ginawang standee [diyan] sa hagdan… dapat panagutin ang may utos niyan,” another
Filipino
remarked.

MRT management blamed the incident on the station supervisor, saying it did not authorize the action. The agency added that it ordered the practice to be “immediately stopped” upon learning of the situation.
“Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez has ordered the immediate relief of the station supervisor who has since been referred to the MRT-3 Disciplinary Committee for appropriate investigation and corresponding sanctions,” the MRT management said in a statement.
“DOTr-MRT-3 also apologizes to the personnel who were asked to carry the said tarpaulins. That is not part of their function and no personnel shall be treated that way,” it added.
“We assure our commuters that corrective measures are being undertaken to prevent similar incidents from happening again, and we remain committed to upholding accountability, efficiency, and respect in all our operations,” the train management said.
Earlier this week, the MRT Shaw Boulevard station made headlines after a station supervisor placed a sign on an escalator at the platform.
The sign read: “Each step you climb is a gift to your heart, lungs, and muscles.”
The signage drew criticism, as some commuters said it overlooked those with impairments and senior citizens who cannot easily use stairs.
