10 Angono Police Officers Under Probe Over Alleged Extortion of Criminology Student in Rizal
Ten police officers in Angono, Rizal are now under investigation over alleged extortion of a criminology student.
The police officers were being accused of illegally arresting a criminology student in what was described as a fake drug case. The officers have been placed under restrictive custody while the case is being reviewed.
According to the Police Regional Office 4A, the officers were temporarily assigned to the Administrative Holding Section of the Rizal Police Provincial Office. This move was done to make sure the investigation would be fair and free from interference while the case is ongoing.
The student filed an administrative complaint on February 10, accusing the officers of serious misconduct and behavior not expected from police personnel. The complaint was submitted to the National Police Commission, which is now handling the case.
The incident reportedly started on November 10, 2025. Police claimed the student was arrested during a buy-bust operation at around 10 in the evening.
However, CCTV footage later showed that the student was stopped much earlier, around 5 in the afternoon, while riding a motorcycle. The difference raised serious questions about the police report.
The student also said he was forced to admit to owning illegal drugs and was asked to pay 50,000 pesos through GCash. The money was allegedly sent by his family in hopes of resolving the situation quickly. Despite the payment, a case was still filed against him.
The charges were later dismissed by the prosecutor after finding several inconsistencies in the police affidavits. Testimonies from barangay watchmen and a media representative also did not support the police version of events.
Based on reports, those involved include one police captain, a chief master sergeant, two master sergeants, five staff sergeants, and one police corporal, all assigned to the municipal anti-drug unit.
