Clarita Carlos Sparks Online Firestorm Over Blunt Classroom Remark
CLARITA CARLOS – A bold statement from Clarita Carlos has ignited intense debate online, drawing thousands of reactions from netizens.
Clarita Carlos, a retired professor of the University of the Philippines and former national security adviser of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., once gained public attention when she served as a panel member during the 2022 presidential candidates’ debate organized by SMNI.
“Empirical evidence: Kahit naka aircon pa ang classroom kung bobo ang guro, wala din learning mga bata,”
she said.
“Is the teacher is the sole provider of learning? Ahm, The teacher is not the sole provider of learning. According to contemporary educational theories such as constructivism and social learning theory, knowledge is actively constructed by learners through interaction, experience, and social engagement. The teacher’s role has shifted from being the primary source of information to a facilitator who guides, supports and scaffolds learning Dra,”
a netizen said.
Carlos responded firmly, saying,
“mastery of the subject matter is THE PREDICTOR variable! The rest are INTERVENING variables…”

“Under the mango tree classrooms are better before… no chatGPT, no technicals…just plain passion…”
Another wrote,
Some expressed agreement, such as,
“Exactly prof! I even see teachers who are weak on spelling or English teachers who cannot speak or write gramatically correct english.”
Meanwhile, others reacted differently:
“hahahaha! may tamad po siguro but bobo?…the board exam is not a joke!”
Another netizen said,
“Nagsisimula sa bahay ang knowledge ng bata. After school, dapat hindi dun napuputol ang learning, kaagapay dapat ang magulang. Wag iasa lahat sa guro. During our time, bago kami magkinder tinuturuan kami sa bahay namin kung paano magsulat ng pangalan at magbasa ng abakada. Isa pa, kung hindi disiplinado ang bata sa bahay, sakit ng ulo sa school kaya ang tendency mahirap turuan dahil matigas ang ulo.”
One simply remarked,
“Yabang naman ni prof.”
A supporter added,
“The ‘Carlos Doctrine’ has always been that educational hardware is useless without skilled humanware. I’ll ask a neighbor who currently occupies a senior position at the DepEd. Will cut and paste your two relevant posts on the subject.”
